Huh?

I know I owe a real post... but I just must comment. Alice Lane has finished the re-do of Nie Nie's basement playroom and the pics are all over the blogosphere today.

But when I look at the pictures, I don't think it actually looks that good. There is so much conflicting madness! These pictures mixed with the luke warm experience mom has had with AL in her house and I'm left scratching my head. Why does everyone hail them as design geniuses? If you take a really critical look at what they do, it is really all good? Maybe I should just keep that opinion to myself.

I hadn't seen the final product, but you're right. This is bad!

Sad, because I thought the rendering looked so good!

Hayley I totally agree! The rendering was really pretty so I was looking forward to seeing it. And there are bits and pieces that I like. But all together it's crazy. Oh well, at least she got it for free (presumably).

Can you imagine how cluttered the play room is going to look once there are actually toys and such scattered everywhere?

I love that wallpaper, and many elements in the room, but I totally agree, it doesn't come toegther well.

Also, those brown plastic chairs make me want to gag a little.

Yeah, I didn't think it was that great either! Like some elements are cool, but it's kind of a mess, like sensory overload. It's a little too much. And though I think the huge table is cool, it's too big, and I think I have a thing against white...

The rendering looks nice because that pop of yellow ties it together and the curtain is more dramatic. (I like the floor, which was probably already there. They should have worked with it more.)

I really like the sofa that I got there. For my living room, it seemed they were trying to move their floor samples. I get that feeling about this table, too. It is unique and probably looked interesting in the showroom, but here it gets lost without adding anything. I wouldn't have chosen it for this place.

I hope Nie Nie likes it. It is always nice to have a room DONE. Maybe it lives better than it photographs. In any case she will make it better.

I really dislike the table and chairs. It all seems very thrown together.

I kind of liked the yellow cabinets with the checkerboard. It seemed very much NieNie's style.

Agreed. And I second courtney's comments.

I really loved the room BEFORE the redo.

Me too! Those yellow cupboards. Sad to see them go.
