Iguassu is at the very southern tip of Brazil, on the border of Argentina and Paraguay. Manaus is in the state of Amazonas, which is on the northern side. Brazil is as wide across as the United States, so flying from one side to the other took most of the morning.

We stayed at a secluded resort-ish place called EcoPark. It's quite a ways from the airport and only accessible by boat. When I pictured going to the rain forest, I always pictured tall tress, a dense overhead canopy, rain and little sunlight. Somehow I forgot about all the rivers...ha! It was a pleasant surprise to find the resort was right on a creek/lake/off-shoot of the Rio Negro and thus provided some GREAT beachfront. Which is pretty much heaven for me.
Upon arrival, the first activity was piranha fishing. Filet mignon on the hook of a bamboo fishing rod. I was skeptical, but I ended up catching TWO piranhas!! It was totally thrilling.

What a thrilling start to this part of the adventure!
